.

An appealing cross-section of the short films that were featured at the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2015. Programmer Peter van Hoof: “We selected three films that were top favourites with our festival-goers.”
The first short film is The Basement by visual artist Eric van Lieshout, part of IFFR”s programme section As Long As It Takes: Short. Van Lieshout”s work premiered at Manifesta 10 in St Petersburg, where it provoked a lot of response.
The Basement is followed by two titles from the Tiger Awards Competition for Short Films. The first one is Tijd en plaats, een gesprek met mijn moeder (Time and Place) by Martijn Veldhoen, who presents his mother”s life story in an unexpected, sensitive and visually ingenious way.
The programme ends with sounds and images of the extraordinary funerary traditions and rituals of South Vietnam: The Living Need Light, the Dead Need Music by the American- Vietnamese collective The Propeller Group.
