Hitsville: The Making of Motown
Ben Turner, Gabe Turner / US, GB, 2019 / 113 min.
The story of the most famous record label in the world, told for the first time by founder and owner Berry Gordy. A turbulent history that took place against a backdrop of inequality, racism and a rapidly growing civil rights movement.

60 years after Berry Gordy set up Motown in Detroit, the record label remains iconic. Motown became much more than just a record company, developing its own sound through classics such as Let’s Get It On to Dancing on the Ceiling. The talent nursery that was Detroit produced some of the biggest names in music: with The Jackson Five, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross & The Supremes and The Four Tops, Motown was a huge hit machine.
