Imagine - Blue Velvet Revisited
Peter Braatz / SI, DEUZE, 2016 / 85 min.
A unique look behind the scenes of Blue Velvet with gorgeous, never seen before material of this iconic film.

While David Lynch was making Blue Velvet, German film student Peter Braatz was given permission to document the shooting of the film. He used 8mm film, made almost 1000 photos and interviewed director and cast. After 30 years the material was used for this film.
Not an ordinary documentary, but a unique look behind the scenes, with wonderful, never seen before material.
This is not an ordinary documentary with the usual talking heads. The director calls it a “meditation on a movie” and has loosely chaptered the film around motives and characters. The many photos are great already, showing a young David Lynch completely at ease with himself and his film project. The 8mm material is even better, with a mix of footage from the film itself and impressions behind the scenes. And there are the interviews, with Lynch musing on the use of computers for shooting films and Isabella Rossellini talking about the reason she took on the role. A unique look at an iconic film.
