Last year, director Phạm Thiên Ân Met won the Camera d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival for his contemplative debut film. The second Vietnamese winner in thirty years, following Na Tran An Hung’s The Scent of Green Papaya.
After his parents have emigrated to the US, Thiện moves from the provinces to the city of Saigon in South Vietnam, where he earns a living directing wedding videos. When his sister-in-law dies in a scooter accident, he has to look after her five-year-old son Dao, whose father disappeared years ago. Accompanied by the coffin and the child, Thiện travels back to his birthplace for the funeral.
