Jalan Raya Pos
Bernie IJdis / NL, 1996 / 155 min.
Road movie-like documentary about the Great Post Road. The 1,000 km long road was built under the Dutch colonialist Daendels and cost the lives of thousands of Indonesian forced labourers.

Pramoedya Ananta Toer (1925), one of the most important Indonesian authors in recent decades, wrote an essay on the Great Post Road from an Indonesian perspective at director Bernie IJdis’ request. The road was built in the early 19th century by the Dutch and killed many of the locals who were forced to work on the road’s construction.
