A compilation programme with: JG (Tacita Dean, 2013, 26’30”). A sequel in technique to Tacita Dean’s FILM, which was shot in a salt mine in Utah. Dean drew inspiration for her film from her correspondence with cult author J.G. Ballard.

Ballard”s short story The Voices of Time (1956) references Spiral Jetty (1970) by visual artist Robert Smithson, who was a correspondent of his. On this evening we will hear fragments from the correspondence between the three artist-soulmates. For JG Dean ran the unexposed film through the camera multiple times, which resulted in a layered, collage-like work that at the same time explores the capacity of time and location on the celluloid itself.

With an introduction by art historian Mia Lerm-Hayes, who is the author of a book on Tacita Dean and currently holds the Chair of Modern and Contemporary Art History at the University of Amsterdam. The evening is in English.
