Koolhoven & Simons: Immortality Night
Who does not want to live forever? Dracula and Highlander cast reasonable doubt on this evening devoted to immortality. With 60 minutes’ worth of film clips, including Blood for Dracula (1971, featuring Udo Kier), and Guillermo del Toro’s Cronos (1993). Tonight’s feature film is Highlander (1986). Preceded by Queen’s spectacular 35mm music video Princes of the Universe from Eye’s collection.
The pace is murderous and the cinematography is magnificent as are the locations in Highlander, which follows a bizarre (and fast dwindling ) group of immortals locked in age-old deadly combat. Highlander (Christopher Lambert) nimbly time travels between the Scottish Highlands in the Middle Ages and modern America, driven by Queen”s rock-solid soundtrack 'Who wants to live forever'. An iconic performance by a perpetually troubled-looking Lambert and Sean Connery as his eloquent mentor.

Preceded by Queen”s 35mm music video Princes of the Universe from Eye”s collection, plus 60 minutes” worth of clips from films about immortality, such as Cronos (1993) by Guillermo del Toro and Blood for Dracula (1971) starring Udo Kier. The legendary Kier went on a strict diet for his role of Dracula and it almost killed him. Kier”s crash diet gave him the perfect emaciated look, but undermined his health to such an extent that he was forced at one point to play the bloodthirsty count from a wheelchair. A performance that made him truly immortal.

Koolhoven & Simons
Every month, Koolhoven and Simons will be scrutinizing the genre film, presenting films within pretty forthright themes that have never before been screened at Eye. Expect evenings on Trucker, Grindhouse or Revenge of Nature films. A tribute to rarely screened trailers and forgotten classics, where possible in 35mm, using films from Eye’s collection.
