La dolce vita
Federico Fellini / IT, FR, 1960 / 176 min.
Fellini’s portrait of the Roman jet set never feels dated. Marcello Mastroianni plays the dyed-in-the-wool, cynical paparazzo Marcello who develops an unexpected passion for the recently arrived starlet Sylvia (Anita Ekberg).

In Sylvia’s wake, Marcello attends jet set parties in Rome, uncovering the boredom, doubt and chaos lurking beneath the thin veneer of the ‘good life’.
A stunning portrait in black-and-white of the Italian capital in the early sixties. Fellini found the perfect form and style to depict his theme: Rome's elite play themselves, although the famous Via Veneto – meeting point of the international beau monde in the sixties – was recreated in the studio.
