poster Eye Meets Marmoucha: La noire de... (Black Girl) (Ousmane Sembène, SN 1966)

La noire de... (Black Girl) was inspired by a short story from Sembène's collection 'Voltaique' that was first published in 1962, which – in turn – was based on a real life incident. Mbissine Thérèse Diop plays Diouana, a young Senegalese woman who moves from Dakar, Senegal to Antibes, France to work for a French couple. There Diouana hopes to continue her previous occupation as a babysitter, anticipating a new, cosmopolitan lifestyle.
