Adolfo (François Périer), a picky book dealer in Rome is in his late 40s when he meets the 36-year-old clerk Pina (Sandra Milo) through a contact ad. However, while visiting her in a small town in the Po Valley in northern Italy, it soon becomes apparent that they are poorly matched. Pina dreams of the bustling life in Rome and has multiple pets. Adolfo hates animals and has an idyllic impression of small town life. He also constantly reminds everyone how provincial he thinks they are whilst developing into an ego-centric freeloader.

La visita is shown in 4K. The film was restored by CSC (Cineteca Nazionale at CSC Digital Lab laboratory) from the original footage and sound provided by Minerva Pictures.
