Lamentations of Judas
Boris Gerrets / NL, 2020 / 96 min.
Angolan soldiers known as ‘The Terrible Ones’ once fought white South Africa’s colonial wars. Left behind on the edge of the Kalahari desert, the remaining veteran combatants are the key figures in this film on guilt, betrayal and free will. Filmmaker Boris Gerrets opens old wounds in a bid for redemption.

Gerrets, who was already ill while the film was shot, died on 26 March this year. Lamentations of Judas was to be the opening film of Movies that Matter this year, which took place online because of Covid-19.
