L'eclisse
Michelangelo Antonioni / IT, FR, 1962 / 126 min.
Alain Delon plays suave, besuited Milanese stock-market trader Piero, who becomes Vittoria (Monica Vitti)’s new boyfriend, although he remains aloof. Film chosen by Nuri Billge Ceylan, subject of an exhibition in Eye.

Last part of Antonioni’s love trilogy which also includes L’avventura and La notte. The three films are characterized by a sense of alienation as lovers try to get closer to one another. In L'eclisse, Vittoria (Monica Vitti) dumps her extremely jealous lover for Piero, a sophisticated stockbroker (Alain Delon).
Chosen by Nuri Bilge Ceylan
The parallels between Antonioni and Nuri Bilge Ceylan are many: the long takes, the alienation of the bourgeoisie, and the focus on 'dead time' – the time before and after dialogues that say nothing, yet express (and conceal) so much.
