Leven met je ogen

Ramón Gieling / NL, 1997 / 55 min.

In 1997 Johan van der Keuken made To Sang Fotostudio, a short film about the Chinese photographer To Sang, who at the time had been running a studio on Amsterdam’s Albert Cuypstraat for twenty years. Ramón Gieling  in turn made a long documentary on the making of van der Keuken’s film. He puts paid to the romantic idea that a documentary maker somehow manages to capture life spontaneously.

Filmmaker, writer, theatre-maker, visual artist: in every role Ramón Gieling wants to get to the bottom of things and see what drives people. The maker of En un momento dado, an extraordinary film about Johan Cruyff’s years in Barcelona, and Erbarme dich (St Matthew Passion), likes to explore the boundary between reality and imagination.
