Londen 1953. Mr Williams (Bill Nighy) leads an upstanding, hard working life as a civil servant where he and his staff toil to rebuild the country.

As the paperwork stacks up, the greying public official is told he doesn’t have long to live. His diagnosis forces him to review his existence. The widower, father of an orphaned son, wants to leave more behind than boring papers after his demise.
