Lost, Lost, Lost
Jonas Mekas / US, 1976 / 173 min.
Jonas Mekas, a pivotal figure in American avant-garde film, captured his entire life in film diaries. Lost, Lost, Lost covers the period from his arrival in New York in 1949 up to 1963, when he filmed a portrait of singer Tiny Tim, recorded peace demonstrations and composed film haikus.
Jonas Mekas (1922-2019), founder of the Film-Makers’ Cooperative and Anthology Film Archives, always wanted to record his life. Over the course of that long life, from the hundreds of hours of home movies he shot he compiled a fascinating series of film diaries documenting his development: from newly arrived immigrant and unknown poet from Lithuania to founding father of American experimental film.
Jonas Mekas work can also be seen in the exhibition Underground in Eye.
