Paula Beer plays Laura, a talented pianist who, following an accident, is found and cared for by the mysterious Betty. What are her motives? Christian Petzold modelled his elegant, enigmatic film on the structure of Maurice Ravel’s piano cycle of the same title.
During an outing to the countryside around Berlin, piano student Laura is involved in, and miraculously survives, a serious car accident that kills her boyfriend. Physically unharmed but in inner turmoil, she is taken in by Betty, who witnessed the accident. Right from the start, a strong bond emerges between the two women.
