Mon oncle
Jacques Tati / FR, IT, 1958 / 116 min.
Little Gérard lives in a hyper-modern, sterile house where humour and pranks are not tolerated. His pleasantly crazy uncle turns this upside down. The question is: who is actually looking after who?
Mon oncle, which pokes fun at modernity, was Tati’s first colour film. Gérard lives with his parents in a villa with all mod cons. But: the fountain is playing up and the garage door has a mind of its own. Then Gérard’s uncle Hulot visits, and turns the household upside down through his ineptitude with people and devices: resulting in lots of slapstick.
