Moonstruck
Norman Jewison / US, 1987 / 102 min.
Masterful romantic comedy won Oscars for Olympia Dukakis and Cher. Loretta falls head over heels for her fiancée’s brother (a young Nicolas Cage). In memory of Norman Jewison who died recently, aged 97.

Eye film programmer Ronald Simons considers Moonstruck the best romantic comedy of all time. According to him Moonstruck is "an essential film, whose popularity has suffered due to the much shared hatred of leading actress Cher. That this is undeserved is an understatement as Cher has had at least three unbelievable roles. Alongside Moonstruck she also steals the show in The Witches of Eastwick (1987) as well as in Mermaids (1990). Cher won an Oscar for her role in Norman Jewison’s Moonstruck, a heart-warming portrait of the Italian-American Castorini and Cammareri families in 1980s New York".
