MovieZone Presents KinoTalk: No Stories About Us, Without Us
The final edition of MovieZone for 2025. An evening with filmmaker Morris Maturbongs dealing with participation, authenticity and reclaiming your own story. With a screening of comedy-drama Boy (2010, New Zealand) by director Taika Waititi. Motto for the evening: ‘The more personal, the more creative’.

Stories are often told about people, but seldom with them. In this MovieZone KinoTalk, we’re turning the spotlight on makers who have a close personal involvement with their subject matter. Makers who draw strength from their own culture, youth and background in their work.
We’re screening the film Boy (2010) by director Taika Waititi: a poignant, humorous portrayal of family, youth and rediscovering your roots. After the film, Morris will talk to Sahil Amar Aïssa, Joenoes Polnaija, Julia Jouwe & Ashley Röttjers about themes including identity, inspiration and cultural representation.
There is also an impressive exhibition by photographer Tyler Chan, and we’ll round off the evening with drinks and music from DJ SIROJ.
