The story of Pistelli, who travelled from Perpignan to Havana in 1898 with only his Pathé camera, starts in the heart of Havana, at the mouldy walls of Campo Amor. Unfortunately for him, a man from Lyon, Gabriel Veyre, had arrived a year earlier with a Lumière camera, which meant the brand new cinematograph was already known in Cuba. Penniless, Pistelli started working as a brothel tout.
