Thirty-five years later, Bertolucci's epic - restored in 2006 - is as impressive as it was when it was released. In this two-part epic masterpiece, Bertolucci gives his romantic view of the Italian class struggle. Looking at the friendship between landowner Alfredo Berlinghieri (Robert De Niro) and farmer's son Olmo Dalco (Gérard Depardieu), the director explores early 20th-century Italy.
