Opening Ceremony

Every year, we showcase new and exciting stories told through the prism of the moving body. Experience films in which artists playfully reframe existing meanings, uplifting and reminding us of the power of dance!

In the opening, Cinedans will showcase a selection of beautiful and inspiring dance films from around the world. In addition, we will show you short excerpts from the extensive documentary program that will be screened in the coming days, and we will give you a taste of the latest homegrown dance films!

The opening will be kicked off with a performance by visual artist Wessel Verrijt. Wessel creates sculptures, architectural vehicles and tactile mobiles that come to life in performances.

Marian Markelo, aka Okomfo Nana Efuawill, open the night with a special blessing ceremonie. Marian is a Winti priestess and connoisseur of African Surinamese historical, spiritual and social heritage.
