Opening Night
John Cassavetes / US, 1977 / 142 min.
An actress with stage fright and a drink problem is worried about getting older. Independently made Cassavetes classic, in which the director gets amazing performances from his actors. Cassavetes’ film inspired Ivo van Hove to create a play of the same name. See the exhibition All About Theatre About Film.

Director John Cassavetes shows human life in all its raw, messy glory. Ivo van Hove adapted three of his film scripts for the stage: Faces, Husbands and Opening Night. “Cassavetes’s films have an anarchistic quality. They are all about people who kick over the traces and get to grips with crises in a very physical way.”
