Paranoia
Adriaan Ditvoorst / NL, 1967 / 101 min.
Film based on W.F. Hermans' novella Paranoia (1953), about a young man traumatised by war. Arnold Clever becomes convinced he is a wanted war criminal whose description is all over the newspapers. This delusion leads to his downfall.

Paranoia was the first feature-length fiction film by Adriaan Ditvoorst, whose short film debut Ik kom wat later naar Madra (1965) attracted international acclaim. Reviewers noted that Ditvoorst had successfully captured the dark tone of Hermans' novella through sparse use of dialogue, powerful images and a foreboding atmosphere.
