Satyajit Ray / IN, 1955 / 125 min.

Really, the golden era of Italian neorealism was over by the time director Satyajit Ray made the major Indian representative of the genre, Pather Panchali. The film was the first of his ‘Apu trilogy’, in which he shone a light on everyday life at the underbelly of Indian society, focusing on three phases in the life of the eponymous character.
