François Ozon / FR, 2022 / 85 min.
François Ozon’s modern take on Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s classic Die bitteren Tränen der Petra von Kant is a sardonic satire on film stars and their cruel whims. With Isabelle Adjani and Hanna Schygulla in top form.
Successful, famous director Peter von Kant lives with his assistant Karl, who he mistreats and humiliates. When the great actress Sidonie introduces Peter to Amir, a handsome but impoverished young man, Peter immediately falls in love with him. He invites Amir to share his apartment and offers to help him break into the film world. The plan works, but as soon as Amir has become famous he drops Peter, leaving him to face his demons alone.
