Political Art & Uncertain Endings: round table discussion
Artists and photoghraphers Ad van Denderen, Lebohang Tlali, Renzo Martens and Melle Smets debate the question whether Western artists can make accurate statements on the history of Africa, a continent that is not their own. Moderator of the evening is Nagaré Willemsen. Clips from the work of the artists will be shown during the conversation, as well as an animation film from the series 10 Drawings for Projection by South-African artist William Kentridge whose work is currently exhibited in Eye.

Please note: the main laguage of the discussion is Dutch, and partly English.
The exhibition Welkom Today is on view at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam from 18 May.

William Kentridge (2019)
In 2015, the South African artist William Kentridge donated 10 Drawings for Projection (1989-2011) to the Eye Filmmuseum. These ten short animation films marked Kentridge’s breakthrough on the international art scene. Illuminating the eventful history of South Africa, these films will be shown at Eye this summer as part of a larger installation.
