In memory of Tatsuya Nakadai, the star of Akira Kurosawa’s film adaptation of King Lear. The celebrated Japanese actor passed away on 8 November this year. He frequently took on roles playing opposite that other famous Kurosawa actor, Toshiro Mifune.

He acted in the films of great Japanese directors such as Akira Kurosawa, Masaki Kobayashi and Mikio Naruse, makes a three-second appearance in Kurosawa’s The Seven Samurai, and made a huge impression in Kurosawa’s masterpiece Ran – later in life he was known by the unofficial honorary title ‘The Eighth Samurai’ for his services to Japanese cinema.
