Can we reimagine an urban forest as a living archive? Filmmaker Tushar Madhav brings tales from a poetic utopia – one in which trees speak of the histories they witness, urging him to revisit his roots.
Hinged between the real and imaginary landscapes of a gay-cruising forest reserve in Amsterdam, the film moves between the Netherlands and India, traversing spaces, memories and dreams that connect humans with trees.
Reimagining the forest as a site of metaphysical encounters, Rangi: Sanctuary of Whispering Trees reflects on the ways of looking, raising questions on the gaze regimes of skin, colour and origin.
