Requiem
Jonas Mekas / US, 2019 / 82 min.
The final film by Jonas Mekas, the treasurer of American avantgarde and experimental film, is an associative collage of beautiful blooms, cross sections of footage of war, flooding and other catastrophes. Mekas chose Verdi’s mournful Messa da requiem as the score.
Flowers everywhere. Ornamentals, wildflowers, blossoming trees, wonderful meadows and gorgeously laid out gardens: for over 30 years Jonas Mekas (1922 - 2019) collected footage of exuberant flora with his Sony camcorder and compact Nikon camera.
