Reed cutter Johan finds a girl on his land: she’s dead. What happened? And why does he feel guilty? This first feature-length fiction film by Sven Bresser had its world première at Cannes where it was included in the prestigious Semaine de la Critique competition.

For years, Johan has been cutting the reeds that are used to thatch roofs or make baskets, mats and screens. One day, he comes across the lifeless body of a girl on his land, and is hit by a strange feeling of guilt. While Johan – played by Gerrit Knobbe, an actual reed cutter by trade – takes care of his granddaughter, he goes in search of answers, trying to track down the Evil.
