Rituelen
Herbert Curiël / NL, 1989 / 95 min.
Herbert Curiel’s film adaptation of the novel Rituelen (1980) by under-appreciated Dutch writer Cees Nooteboom, stars Derek de Lint as a philandering art dealer and Thom Hoffman as his regimented counterpart with a fascination for Japanese mysticism. In memoriam Cees Nooteboom.

Wealthy flaneur Inni Wintrop likes to gamble on the stock exchange, deal in art and, above all, seduce women. Wintrop does well among the chaos of modern life. He nonchalantly roams the streets of Amsterdam, follows the fluctuations of the market, speculates on both art and love, and writes a horoscope column for the newspaper. After losing his fortune in a stock market crash, Wintrop becomes increasingly aware of the real values represented by the rituals of life.
