Salvatore Giuliano marked the international breakthrough of neorealist filmmaker Francesco Rosi, whose politically motivated biography of the ‘Sicilian Robin Hood’ won the Silver Bear at the Berlin film festival. Film of choice of Martin Scorsese, who described the film as a hymn to the native land of his ancestors.
