Scarred Hearts is a novel by Romanian author Max Blecher (1909-1938), who suffered from a then incurable form of spinal tuberculosis. In Radu Jude’s film adaptation, Blecher’s alter ego Emanuel tries to make the best of things in a sanatorium on the Black Sea. In the meantime the world finds itself on the verge of WWII.

Director Radu Jude will attend the screening of Scarred Hearts on 12 January, after which he will be interviewed by film journalist Andrei Gorzo
