Rumours about a fabled land of freedom cause chaos in an overregulated society in this noir-like animation with its cool, refined visuals and featuring the voices of Asia Argento, Lav Diaz and Gaspar Noé.
The inhabitants of a future society all have to wear a paper bag over their heads under the motto that: 'to be alike is the way of life' [sic]. The lead in Schirkoa is 197a, a new member of the council who falls for a rebellious girl. He becomes embroiled in a web of incidents that open his eyes to a new reality.
Preliminary film
Before Schirkoa you will watch the short film Division (1') by Johan Rijpma from 2012. A sheet of paper is torn into an even number of pieces and put back together. A photo of this composition is then printed and redistributed. This feedback distribution process is repeated while the division gradually becomes finer.
