Sena Nationaal Jeugd Jazz Orkest
Woody Allen manages to capture the experience of big city life like no other. He took his camera to New York, Barcelona, Rome, London and Paris, sometimes also performing there with his jazz orchestra. In tribute to Woody, the Sena Dutch National Youth Jazz Orchestra brings a special performance in EYE Arena, playing new arrangements of some of the scores for Allen’s urban comedies.
The “junior premier league of jazz” is led by pianist, composer, orchestrator and melodic player Martin Fondse, who is renowned for his epic and cinematic style. Together with the Sena Dutch National Youth Jazz Orchestra, he will offer a special performance of his City Lights programme, an ode to the world”s large cities.
The conductor and his orchestra were partly inspired by the music of Woody Allen urban comedies like Manhattan, Hannah and Her Sisters, Match Point, Midnight in Paris and Vicky Cristina Barcelona.Admission is free; the show starts around 23.00 after the screening of Manhattan (starting at 21.30). The programme is part of Amsterdam”s annual Grachtenfestival, which is held this year from 14-22 August.
