Shoes
Lois Weber / US, 1916 / 60 min.
Lois Weber was the most successful female filmmaker of her time and a major influence on silent cinema. Her melodrama Shoes is about a store clerk so poor she can’t afford new shoes who subsequently considers prostitution.

The girl falls ill from walking through the rain with holes in her shoes. Ultimately, she gives in to a man’s offer at cabaret The Blue Goose. The following night they go to view a ‘flat for rent’. Restoration by Eye, soundtrack with a score by Donald Sosin and Mimi Rabson.
