Slacker
Richard Linklater / US, 1991 / 97 min.
Richard Linklater himself plays the leading role in this classic film for slacker philosophers, eternal students and unemployed layabouts, once aptly captured in the term ‘Generation X’. Part of Looking for America: Slackers.
If the “slacker film” is not an acknowledged genre yet, this film will set it right. Slackers are laid-back but principled anti-materialists, as featured in films like Rick Alverson”s The Comedy and of course Richard Linklater”s Slacker.
Linklater himself plays the leading role in this classic film for slacker philosophers, eternal students and unemployed layabouts. He followed some hundred youngsters roaming the streets of Austin, Texas and spending their time bullshitting and spending cash. They call each other by names like “Papa Smurf”, 'Dostoyevsky wannabe' or 'Ultimate loser'.
The screening on 2 November will be introduced by standup comedian Gerthein Boersma.
