Sorry We Missed You
Ken Loach / GB, FR, BE, 2019 / 100 min.
When construction worker Ricky Turner loses his job he finds work as a package deliverer. On a degrading zero-hour contract, that is. It’s easy to say British filmmaker Ken Loach is riding his hobbyhorses again in Sorry We Missed You. It’s equally true to say Loach is simply doing what he’s always been so brilliant at as a lifelong social critic.

After I, Daniel Blake (2016), Loach takes up arms again. Against his old enemy, that is, the capitalist system that makes the poor poorer and the rich richer. Worst of all, these days the enemy pretends to be a friend. When Ricky applies for a job at a delivery service, his prospective employer tells him: you don't work for us, but with us. Meanwhile, Ricky is being cut off on all sides.
