Sound of Falling

Mascha Schilinski / DE, 2025 / 155 min.

Four women forgotten by history, but not left untouched by a history of violence. Mascha Schilinski’s free-thinking, associative portrait of four interwoven female lives on a farm in northern Germany won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.

History has really gone to town in this place on the banks of the Elbe, between Berlin and Hamburg. Two world wars have passed by the family farm where four generations of women, taken on as farm hands, spend part of their lives. Sound of Falling (In die Sonne schauen) interweaves the lives of Alma (Hanna Heckt) in the early twentieth century; Erika (Lea Drinda) in the forties; Angelika (Lena Urzendowsky) in the eighties; and Lenka (Laeni Geiseler) in the present.
