Spetters

Paul Verhoeven / NL, 1980 / 115 min.

In memory of Rutger Hauer, who died on 19 July, Eye will screen the restored version of the once-controversial Spetters, in which Hauer was directed for the fourth time by Paul Verhoeven. Hauer plays motor-racing dentist Gerrit Witkamp. Spetters was Hauer's last Dutch film; in the US he quickly broke through with Nighthawks (1981) and Blade Runner (1982).
