Spring Breakers
Harmony Korine / US, 2012 / 92 min.
Spring Breakers is Harmony Korine’s hallucinogenic portrait of students going wild, supplied with a thumping soundtrack and starring James Franco in the lead role. Probably the wildest Spring Break ever. Part of Looking for America: Kids.

Four sexy college girls plan to rob a fast food restaurant so they will have enough money to spend on their spring break. The lead roles are for James Franco and two crisp Disney starlets. Harmony Korine”s hypnotizing trip is backed by a thumping soundtrack.
As the four girls celebrate their getaway in a motel room they make such a racket that the police are called in to arrest them. Hung over and clad in their bikinis they are led before the magistrate. To their astonishment the four are bailed out by Alien (a hilariously over-the-top role by James Franco), an unknown local hood. Alien treats the four girls to the wildest Spring Break ever. At the Cannes Film Festival Korine referred to his style of filming as a “fluid narrative”: “It had to be about surfaces. That”s what culture is all about.”
