Matthias Glasner / DE, 2024 / 182 min.

Poignant portrait of estranged family members reunited by the vicissitudes of fate, with an at times darkly humorous tone. Son Tom is going all-out for success as a conductor, while daughter Ellen has succumbed to an alcohol addiction. Winner of a Silver Bear (for Best Screenplay) at the Berlinale 2024.

poster Sterben (Matthias Glasner, DE 2024)
“Each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way”, Russian novelist Leo Tolstoi once wrote. Director of Sterben Matthias Glasner seems to have taken this line from Tolstoi’s ‘Anna Karenina’ to heart in his portrait of a German family within which little love seems to exist.
