Sunset Blvd.
Billy Wilder / US, 1950 / 110 min.
Not everything in Hollywood is glitter and glamour. The star system can rapidly create celebrities, yet equally quickly make yesterday’s star, today’s has-been. No one perceived this quite as acutely as Hollywood master Billy Wilder.

Former silent film star Norma Desmond (Gloria Swanson) has lived as a recluse in a dark house on Sunset Boulevard with her butler (and former director and husband) Max von Mayerling (Erich von Stroheim) since the advent of the talkies. The young scriptwriter Joe Gillis (William Holden) promises the lonely Desmond a comeback, butt is actually only interested in her money.
