Tár

Todd Field / US, 2022 / 158 min.

Director Todd Field wrote his third film in sixteen years especially for actress Cate Blanchett, who received an Oscar-nomination for her role. Blanchett is Lydia Tár, conductor extraordinaire, who is poised to tumble off her pedestal.

poster Tár (Todd Field, US 2022)
Lydia Tár is a conductor like Leonard Bernstein; ambitious, strong willed and with a colossal ego. However she fails to pick up on alarming signals from the outside world. After she sharply reprimands a student decrying the dominance of white classical composers, the incident takes on a life of its own on social media. There are issues privately too and she threatens to lose everything she has achieved.
