The Ballad of Narayama
Shohei Imamura / JP, 1983 / 130 min.
Ancient traditions are honoured in a mountain village in the north of Japan. Elderly villagers who reach the age of 70 are taken by their children to the top of a mountain and are left there to die. Shohei Imamura’s tale about the energetic Orin who prepares for his death won the Golden Palm at Cannes in 1983.

The 2K restoration was carried out by the Japanese production company Toei.
