The Boys from Fengkuei

To mark the premiere of The Assassin, EYE presents a brief retrospective of Hou Hsiao-hsien’s early work. Hou’s international breakthrough came with The Boys from Fengkuei. Hou was inspired by Fellini’s I vitelloni for his portrait of four adolescents leaving their rural lives behind.
