The Bridges of Madison County
Clint Eastwood / US, 1995 / 135 min.
Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood in top form as brief, illicit lovers whereby she has to choose between the lover of her life and her family. Eastwood reveals his sensitive side as both an actor and director in this restrained weepie.

When the son and daughter of the late Francesca Johnson (Meryl Streep) return to Madison County, Iowa to organise their mother’s funeral, they hear to their great surprise that their mother wishes to have her ashes strewn from the Roseman Bridge and not be buried beside their father. The shock deepens when they read Francesca's diary in which she relates how, in 1965, while her children were on a day trip with their father, she met National Geographic photographer Robert Kincaid (Clint Eastwood in a kaki outfit). She fell hopelessly in love with this adventurous spirit – a brief affair that deeply influenced the rest of her life.
