The Event

Documentary maker and film director Sergej Loznitsa edited hours of found footage material dealing with the events of 18 August 1991 in Russia, when hardline communists attempted a coup against Mikhail Gorbachev and the population of Moscow and Leningrad took to the streets in protest. Loznitsa fused silent archival images into a lyrical tale of the fall of the Soviet Union.
