The Gold Rush
Charles Chaplin / US, 1925 / 89 min.
Alongside Modern Times, The Gold Rush is one of THE Chaplin classics. In this imaginative world in which shoe laces look like spaghetti and bread rolls become ballet shoes, Charlie Chaplin the alchemist turns gold into poetry. New restoration.

In The Gold Rush, adventurers feverishly seek gold in the Klondike mines, in the Yukon – including the small vagrant Charlie. When a severe snowstorm threatens, he seeks refuge and shelters with the criminal Black Larson and the kindly Big Jim McKay in an abandoned hut. After suffering hunger for days – he even eats his own shoes – an enormous gold strike makes him rich. Whilst Chaplin gnaws on his shoe, someone else is considering murder and cannibalism.
